Before you make a decision
Security products are easier to compare when you know what you are protecting. Start with the systems that keep the business operating, then consider how you would work if those systems became unavailable. This page is a planning guide, not an incident-response service.
Know what has to recover first
List important applications, the data they rely on and the people who can restore them. Decide which services are essential immediately and which can wait. Include customer records, billing systems and access to the accounts used to manage your infrastructure.
Test recovery, not just backup completion
A successful backup notification does not tell you whether restoration will meet the business’s needs. Schedule a controlled restore test with the people responsible for the system. Review who can alter or delete backups and whether a compromised everyday account could also compromise the recovery copy.
Compare services by responsibility
When speaking to a security vendor, ask which devices and accounts are covered, who reviews alerts and what happens outside business hours. Ask about deployment effort and response arrangements. Product features do not replace clear ownership, staff awareness and a rehearsed plan. If you suspect a live incident, contact your designated security team or a qualified incident-response provider.
Your comparison worksheet
Bring these questions to the conversation
| Compare | Ask |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Which devices and accounts are included? |
| Monitoring | Who reviews alerts and when? |
| Recovery | Has restoration actually been tested? |
| Response | Who can isolate systems and coordinate help? |
Your quick checklist
- Inventory critical systems and data owners.
- Review access controls and update processes.
- Schedule and record a backup restore test.
- Keep response contacts accessible outside affected systems.
